Nice post! Trends are something I am always thinking about, whether it's how they connect with fashion and color as well how it's one continuous cycle that is constantly rotating…trying to predict what will come next, they're fascinating!

I do a major eye roll whenever someone acts like they're above trends, saying they never follow them, because they're pretty unavoidable, and as you mentioned, it does lead to progress. Clients and employers are constantly asking how us designers stay on top of trends, they like it, they want to know we're up to speed on what's happening…as we should be. But trends are only good if you can critique them and see why they exist that way and see what specific elements from the trend may be appropriate for a design (maybe none), all while adding our own spin. If we don't do this, we will get lost and slow down the cycle.

I agree with everything you said here Annie.

Absolutely, and the only way to do this is by using them in your work, and having an honest discussion afterwards.

      Thanks for the comment!

Does it bother anyone else that the site if difficult to read the actual article because more than 1/3 of the page is made for headlines? I actually like reading it in a smaller browser screen... not hating or anything... just saying.
