King of unsolicited redesigns?
what makes this a "google news platform" redesign concept and not just a "news platform" design concept?
edit: holy shit that's one hell of a college thesis.
Would have thought the point of a thesis is to push the discourse on some topic forward, invent something new, put forward a thesis to prove/disprove. This is an extended practicum.
A really well thought out redesign, without a doubt. I am generally not an overall big fan of solicited redesigns as I believe they are kind of an FU to the people behind the original product.
You have some nice ideas here though, I myself like Google News the way it currently is because I hate it when news is overly complicated. I want nice clean whitespace and typography. I am a firm believer news should have minimal use of colour and imagery, the quality should be in the writing itself.
I would love to see a Google News concept that takes ideas from Medium and strips things back even more.
I'm not generally a fan of unsolicited redesigns, but I really, really like this one; not because it looks good, but because it fits in with Google's new aesthetic and feels like a real system, not just some arbitrarily-designed page mockups.
I have to agree with some other comments, about being tired of new not well thought through site redesigns. But i have to say that this was very well executed.
Pleasant to read and see.
!!! Phenomenal work and analysis. Loved reading about the process behind your creation.
Really nice case study! Speaking of news, for now I simply using the new "read mode" on Safari. I like it even better than Medium.com
I hovered on the 'Objective information' thinking its a link.
Slick animation of the UI! What do you think he used? Prototyping tool like Origami or animated in AE?
Very well thought out and the material design interpretation is great.
If I see something like this to be implemented with Feedly or Digg Reader, I'd be happy. Well thought-out case study! :)
How do you do baseline grids on the web?
Kinda reminds me of Yahoo news(iOS) though.
