Ello: a design disaster (medium.com)

This is everything I hate about medium in one article.
Well done.
Hope you get some clicks.
I agree that Ello isn't the prettiest thing to look at (and that it doesn't feel too appealing) but some constructive—and positive—feedback would have gone a lot further than sending down a few paragraphs of "this design is awful, so let me tell you how to make it better" from his high horse.
Everyone has to start somewhere, and no first iteration is perfect; we should be educating, not criticizing.
This sort of stuff needs to stop being a thing.
Ideas, irrespective of how they're executed/presented/etc., should be able to stand without someone outright attacking them. Note, I'm not saying giving feedback (how a lot of these write-ups are repackaged after they've been branded as snooty by the public), but rather articles written with malicious intent. We have no idea the skill level of others and shouldn't judge or attack just because we can.
This kind of crap is disgusting and a great way to destroy a positive learning environment for people on the web. A simple rule of thumb before writing this sort of stuff: if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything.
The world will survive without your vitriol.
i mean, he's not wrong. but ouch.
Their product has been pretty successful with an "awful" design so he should probably be complementing them instead of bashing them.
Maybe not constructive, but it's exactly what I thought when I first saw it as well.
Is anyone still giving out invites for Ello? I'd like to try it out. Thanks!
I felt the same way about ello's interface when I originally saw it as well. It feels like they sort of smashed indexhibit and facebook together creating an aesthetic that I personally don't care for.
Design critique .. yawn.
