Businessweek has been on point with their heavily net.art-influenced art direction.
If you guys don't get the brilliance of the type and photography pairing here, then fine. But if you do, you should check out the work of Steph Davidson, who illustrates for them: http://stephdavidson.com/ Not sure if she did this one, but she has done a lot of work for them.
Agreed. Businessweek regularly features more interesting and compelling design, layout and type experiments than many pure design mags (especially compared to the downright boring Print, HOW, CMYK, CommArts, etc.).
The creative director at Businessweek — I think it's still Richard Turley — has been doing an incredible job with the magazine since day one.
Richard Turley left for MTV
Rob Vargas is the current creative director of business week. He was art director under Turley before.
She seems to specialize in “ugly” (or let's say, visually disharmonious) art.
There's nothing wrong with that, but then I think people can't be really faulted for finding her stuff ugly since that seems to be the aesthetic she's going for.
The advantage of living in New York.
If you guys don't get the brilliance of the type and photography
I feel like I'm watching high-priced art. People tell me it's great.... but I just don't see it. :))
THIS
I have a habit of downright refusing any work that looks even remotely like that.
Which is a lot since most of my network is in Parisian fashion & art...
I just can't, it's too ugly.
The type for this cover was actually done by Tracy Ma, who's work is also fantastic.
I really like it, mainly because it takes some balls to send that to print.
I don't know who I am anymore.
It's so bad that I want to get a copy
It's so good that I want to get a copy
Wait. What happened to your name?
Pretty smart way to get everyone’s attention. :)
Victor used “‮”, Unicode character used by jews and teenage girls to switch from LTR to RTL (left to right to…).
There are more characters like this, but I’ve tried some now (text rotation) and they does not seem to work in evergreen Chrome.
I don't hate it, throws you off, but I (think?) I get what they did...heh
But I can't get it out of my miiiiiiind
That is one frisky gradient.
I heard that this cover was actually designed by Jony Ive when he was NOT under the influence of LSD.
Is this some kind of parody of questionable iOS7 design decisions?
It's a joke. Obviously.
By the way the (cover) story behind this cover is really nice http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-09-17/tim-cook-interview-the-iphone-6-the-apple-watch-and-being-nice
Finally some pictures of Tim in which he looks like a human being, laughing.
I feel like this HAS to be a joke...right...RIGHT? GUYS!?
They let a kid make the cover in Microsoft Word.
Okay I'll be the first to make the Tim and Eric joke: Great Job!
There's always a column on the contents page dedicated to how they came up with the cover design, so might be worth having a look if you see it on the newsstand.

It raises more questions than it answers.
i like it
Oh man I am dying to know how this happened. Someone had to have played some kind of a joke.
who what why
