Yes … and no. (first of all, he's saying ex-print designer. I thought this was going to be a piece about someone leaving the industry entirely!) While there are a lot of inferiority complex inducing young people running companies in the interactive design world, there have also been people doing it for year. There are some rules, even if they do become broken (look at http://alistapart.com, which has been going for over a decade, for some of the rules of this). So, come on over by all means, but please remember that the rules are different. Many an interaction designer (and developer) has inwardly screamed at a print designer who has attempted to make the web look like print.
Print designers aren't web designers and shouldn't be handing over artwork to devs, that's true.
We can still learn a lot from print designers though. Typography online hasn't caught up to the sophistication of print. It's getting better thanks to web font libraries, tools like Typecast, and sites like Medium and Svbtle based around the written word, but we've still got a ways to go.
I really dislike the notion of separating out "this" type of design from "that" type of design. We are all designers and the good ones are capable of doing print or web with the proper technical knowledge.
