I really enjoyed the tone of the video, and also the special effects. Every commercial for every product should be as watchable as this one! I wish I had a team to use Slack haha!
Me too! It's the worst thing about being a freelancer, not being able to easily try all these cool new team-based tools :(
The only thing that I feel like is missing from all this press is that MetaLab designed this thing. They did such a good job, and I never see their name mentioned. I know that they did an incredible job engineering Slack, but the design of the app is pretty incredible.
Ever since I saw that guy on the Coin video, he's been my favorite actor for explaining tech products.
That magnificent beard.
This man is everywhere hahaha
I remember first seeing him in the Put This On web episodes. Glad to see him pimping products I enjoy using.
Slack f'n rocks. I'm a total fanboy of this product.
For those using Slack could you perhaps tell a little bit about how you are using it? Do you still use a project environment like Basecamp?
I have played around with it a bit. It seems really nice and useful for our team but I am bit worried about the limited amount of structure (like topics) it provides (except from having channels). Or did I perhaps miss something?
Thanks!
I think you're probably right, it's best for shooting each other quick messages or sharing links or files.
That being said we had a Basecamp account and a Slack account and I can no longer remember the last time I logged into the Basecamp account. While it is less structured, the search feature is good enough that the lack of structure doesn't really matter.
To be fair, we are a small team (3 people) but I was working remotely for 3 months and Slack was all we needed. Now that we're all in one place we've stopped using Basecamp all together and just use Slack and this super high-tech system
My team of 6 uses slack for day-to-day internal stuff that the client is not exposed to. We basically have a channel for each project and #general for quickly hitting everyone with a lunchtime or status message.
We use Basecamp for communication with clients and collaborators as well as external project managers. We try to keep all feedback from the client there and use it mostly so there is no email telephone going on. Devs can see the designs they will ultimately build etc.
When I provide creative direction, it's an awesome tool because it's quick, inline viewing and commenting is easy where as basecamp gets wild.
I'd say its a more polished hipchat and the best feature is connecting to people even if they aren't "online."
Thanks. This helps me find a suitable place for it.
We've been using slack since I found it at the end of last year and got us in on the beta. We eventually moved over entirely from campfire to Slack. It's certainly made posting cat gifs for everyone to see a lot easier (because it's always about the important stuff). We do still use email for things but I think our inboxes got a lot lighter for sure.
Great video, fantastic product. We tested it out and our team of 30+ designers, developers, project managers, QA specialists have really adopted it into their workflow. Super valuable addition to our internal tools.
Great video! :D
Don't think it was thaaat funny. Slack is a great product though! (also very slick post production/animation on this video)
I Love, love, LOVE Slack. The video is pretty much spot on!
The UX team at Workiva has been testing it for a while now. We see no real reason to ever switch back to HC/Skype, especially with Slack's ability to add custom Atlassian product integration.
I shared this video with the marketing team and sales team and they were like "What?, I want this. How much?"
I really believe that this video will onboard tons of users.
Love the video, love Slack
Most of my team is part time remote and part timers that are also remote and Slack has been amazing for us. Their inboxes are so full, they routinely miss little things, so Slack is our virtual tap on the shoulder and all hands check in.
We've been using Slack as some sort of nerve centre for our business, and I am pretty stoked they mention my company in it (AppSignal).
Overall, awesome stuff :)
Brilliant!
Sandwich are amazing.
It's soo meta.
So....it's like Hipchat?
It's like Hipchat, but works smoother and has more features that make design collaboration easier. It's a lot less frustrating to share and comment on files with Slack. I also love Slack's fast search feature, which doesn't force you to log into a browser version like HC.
It's also no where near as buggy as Hipchat (which randomly decides to stop working or not notify us when we have @all/@username mentions). Sad panda. :(
Great Sandwich video. Great product. <3
Very funny and self-aware ad. It's nice to see some startups not taking themselves too serious.
We use Slack at Outracks, and it's pretty much exactly as advertised. IRC 2.0-ish, and we love it.
