Looks nice!
The grey and beige/grey at the top on the homepage is a bit difficult to grok for the eye though.
Agreed!
I think I like the old design a lot more, at least it made more sense to me. The old design was way more graphic and immediately showed what people were doing with Shopify, it had it's own face. Don't get me wrong, this new approach doesn't look bad, but in my opinion it makes the shopify brand a lot more generic looking.
I dig the boxed layout.
While I agree that the homepage needs a little more love, it does an effective job highlighting there are two unique offerings now... the Shopify web stuff and the PoS system - and kind of steers you down the right path pretty quickly. If you over-design a page like this, you probably run the risk of people not seeing the PoS product as readily, etc.
I think all the interior pages are done very, very well. It's very clear, concise and offers good examples. As a person who might be nervous about setting up an online shop (and without technical knowhow), it feels comforting. While I think Squarespace is really cool, I could also see how it could be a bit intimidating to a stay-at-home mom dipping her feet into selling crafts or whatnot.
Looks perfect to me.. Can't hate.
The woman is appearing cropped at every size for me. Looks really awkward.
I prefer the old homepage for visual aesthetics. Love the typography on the new one. But the home page feels a bit lop sided. It looks like something is missing. The footer is the biggest part of that page.
And the green pulls the eye way too much. Especially away from the main two offerings the site gives.
The rest of the site is much better. In fact yeah - the rest of the site rocks. I guess homepage's are a bit dead now.
The green background to the right is much more heavy on the eye, for me. Definitely detracts attention from the get started form.
It looks very similar to other sites out there. I would have expected more from this design team. It acts and feels just like Square.
Hmm... there things that aren't working for me. The beige and gray are clashing. When you scroll down the top bar becomes filled and it covers the head of the woman: http://cl.ly/image/0t3b212l192s
I'd say it acts as expected.
