Hi there. Some friends and I built a social news platform (a la DN) especially for people who make videogames. It's based on a MeteorJS social news project called Telescope. We'd love your feedback!

Would you want to get this on TheNews (iOS) (bit.ly/thenews-ios )?

Side note: great app. I actually made mockups to create something like this since these three sites are my top most visited each morning.

Glad to see something already exists. Saves me the trouble. :)

Cool, but I gotta say that this reminds me of a forum I built when I was 15. Remember when we had the capacity to deal with forums? I wanted to create a community for graphic designers, and, like HN, DN, this, and countless others, wanted to associate it with my personal brand.

I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of HN's "news.____" template that DN adopted. I agree that LayerVault definitely deserves some extra traffic and brand recognition for putting so much effort into this and creating real value for everyone involved. But at the same time, a for-profit organization essentially taking ownership over an entire field rubs me the wrong way (yes, YC too).

I think if you want to create something like this for your community, then by all means you should do it, but with your product's lowest tier of $999, this comes across as pretty cynical.

I have already found some neat stories/opinions on the site.

    Oh, like this site?

    http://gamedevs.com/

Dunno who was first, and don't care really. Just thought you ought to know about that one too.

.edit: seriously, not trying to be mean here. Just that I ran into this one a couple of weeks ago.

Funny you mention that. I saw this link get posted on HN as we were working to get GDN out the door. At first, I got a sinking feeling. Then, I decided it didn't really matter. Our site has some strengths over the other options out there: it's really pretty (Thanks, Manuele;), and it's open-source, among others.

In the end, there's room for multiple players here. Some people will click better in that community. Others will find a home in ours.

Yeah, all good. I'll keep an eye on both, regardless!

        Cheers, great initiative.

(I should've said that in my first comment!)

EDIT: I created an IRC channel! It's called #gdnews and I will happily grant the developers founder access. :)

I had a feeling someone would beat me to this. I've been working on a site like this for a while, but I haven't had the time to build it out. I'm just thankful it exists and that someone else saw value in a site like this. :)

If I time in the near future, I'd love to contribute to the look and feel, and maybe build an iOS app down the road!

Would love founder access to the IRC, Nick. What network is the channel on?

You're welcome to contribute to the site either through the repo or by getting in touch. I'd also love to hear about your idea for an iOS app! devon@powerupgames.io
