Can you imagine if that music played as you used instagram?
Dropping red from the heart/like icon is a bad idea.
I always double tap to like so I've barely noticed a red heart in instagram for ages...
That's such a unintuitive pattern that has always bothered me. First few times I did it was because I was trying to zoom in.
But even the small icon after the photo has been liked only does a flip. There is no way to see if you've liked that photo before.
Animations of this length, and in this volume, start to feel overly deliberate, and as though they're only happening as fast as the user is moving. Personally, I'd prefer apps to appear to react and transition faster than my deliberate input. Do that, and the fluidity sought after here will come.
love this, great movement overall. however, it tends to go a bit overboard on animation in the profile view.
still, great work.
does anyone know of any tutorials on how to prototype and animate using keynote??
Wesley, check this out: http://vimeo.com/100377108
Shout out to Andrew Haskin for this, I think it's pretty neat!
Thanks!
My 2¢
Ridiculously over-animated. As said previously, the key to animation is subtlety, which makes each interaction just a little more delightful but not annoying after the 5th time around. Remember how much people backlashed to the parallax effects of iOS 7? So much so that Apple actually added an option to basically remove all of it? I feel this would have a similar response from normal users.
Eye candy wise this looks great. But that's all it is. I have a really really really hard time believing that the majority of Android developers would spend this much time on interactions.
So far all this material design crap is just fluff, a concept. I'll eat my words if the landscape of Android apps changes dramatically after this material design (barf) thing in the hands of developers (it won't).
The movement is pleasing albeit rather slow. What caught me was the off canvas navigation, it seems to add an unnecessary interaction to the app. Do the material design guidelines outline this as the way to access menus? It seems like a step back for a simple app like Instagram.
It's unfortunate that I had to scroll all the way down to finally see someone point this out. The designer focused on the superficial and in return, made the essential navigation unusable. As an Instagram user I always switch from my feed to the news tab. Shrug.
