    I realize this may be an unpopular opinion but I truly, honestly hate this. Not so much the app itself (which I obviously couldn't try, even if I wanted to), but the underlying concept of building gated communities, within the Web, that are accessible to "influencers" or "verified public figures" only — just the wording they use to describe it gives me the chills. If there's one thing the Web does well is allow anyone to find its audience and become an influencer on their own, without anyone's consent. Yet here's this exclusive—although very public—application, introducing a service that's available only beyond some opaque popularity screening.

    For what it's worth, I know these explorations of popularity and exclusivity are not exactly unheard of, that they don't necessarily corrupt the democratic nature of the Web on their own and that Facebook is free to do whatever the hell it wants, but while I've come to expect very little from them, I'm still saddened to understand that, being arguably the largest platform for popular expression on the Web, they're not as focused on providing a solid space for all those other athletes, actors and musicians in the shade to carve their own path.

    meh. who cares. its an app for .001% of people. This is a vanity project. FB should focus their efforts elsewhere.

      What? Why? It's a hugely important subset of users and one that Facebook cares highly about. I also think they have enough employees and capital to focus on more than one project at once, no?

      No, if those influences can more easily interact with their audience, that's a win. It will keep everyone coming back.
