Hi DN! This is my first post, and I'm excited to share with the community an article I just wrote for Sketch users. It's all about using vectors in Sketch, including solutions to some bewildering technical issues. I'm pretty sure even pro Sketch users will find something new in it. Let me know what you think, and any questions you might have on the topic!

When you combine shapes that overlap while going different directions, the computer/Sketch may freak out! There are various reasons that the directions can be different, but the solution is always the same.

That’s interesting. I’m not sure there’s a need for it to work like that. Adobe Illustrator has the same behaviour, but Photoshop doesn’t.

Thanks for your comment, Mark! This part of the article is simply based off my observations, as the overlapping issue doesn't appear to be caused by the fill-rule (even-odd or non-zero). Some scenarios may just be caused by a bug in Sketch or Core Graphics (such as the right-most example I provide in the article). My experience is that a rotate/flip transformation on a shape can cause the issue, as can mixing shapes from different sources (ex. outlined text combined with a vectorized stroke). I'm not sure why Photoshop would give you a different result, but I'd love to hear your insights or thoughts on it!
