LG explains its UI for the G3 (youtu.be)

Wow. There is so much bullshit in this video that I'm still wiping it from my screen. There is literally nothing in here about design, just about ornament and paint.
"By using very light and crisp typefaces, we established rhythmic typography." - There is no relation between crisp and light typefaces and the rhythm in typography.
This is purely hyped copying from trends. Nothing new or profound in this design. Might be an improvement but they could also just stated "We caught up."
Tell us how you really feel! :) I don't think they're doing anything particularly innovative. I'm just impressed that an Android OEM is "catching up". Based on your response, I respectively assume you might not care much about android, but if you compare their G3 UI to say, Samsung's TouchWiz, you might see where I'm coming from.
How I really feel? I feel sad that this is how we explain design to our audiences. As a layer of paint, the following of a trend, the choosing of "mature" colours.
I care a lot about android and think that their old vanilla android interface (like the Nexus line) is amazing, and the new material design makes them the leader in this field (ahead of iOs).
I have used Android, Windows Phone and iPhone, all as a primary phone out of professional curiosity.
They might have come from far, the interface might be good, but this video is an empty shell of marketing speak disguised as design. (No disrespect meant for your opinion, just ranting about the video.)
Agreed, the writing was at best sloppy and at worst buzzword soup. The execution was on point though.
I don't know if I've ever heard so many design buzzwords in a single video. This was painful to watch.
or "How we created a flat design interface and made up design excuses and justifications for following the trend"
While the effects in the video are stunning, I couldn't help but be bothered by how they claim flat design = better GUI. If I go and make all my icons flat, does that mean people will be able to easily use my software now? If flat design and long drop shadows are not just a design trend, why is that so, LG?
I felt that Google sold their new design decisions (Android L) much better.
I know an amazing future for Android UI has just recently been unveiled by the preview of its Material Design concept, but before I/O I came across this video and was pretty impressed.
I mainly prefer the Nexus line, or custom roms, because proprietary UI is usually pretty horrible (cough Samsung cough cough). However, I'm really impressed with LG this time!
Cringeworthy.
If you would have told me the first android UI presentation I would actually appreciate would come from LG, I wouldn't believe you.
Ditto
