I'm using GitHub Pages (http://pages.github.com/) to host my personal site for free, and managing my domain name through DNSimple (https://dnsimple.com/) which costs me a grand total of $14.00 per year. I'm actually paying for a GitHub account so I can have private repos, but if you don't mind your site's code being open-source then you can host it for free there. Uptime has been fine.
GitHub: 0$ I wrote why and how here: http://sicanstudios.com/post/guide-hosting-website-dropbox-github/
Just tried this out, thanks for sharing.
Dreamhost, 119$ per year, unlimited domains, space, bandwith, etc etc.
Great, except when they go down (currently experiencing downtime).
I use macminicolo!
Hetzner vServer VQ 12 / €12 per month.
I just moved from Linode to DigitalOcean. $5/month is a sweet start!
+1 for DigitalOcean
Mediatemple have the best uptime I've ever seen. Their Grid plan is 20$/month (I can refer you for 10% off if you want).
Are you still satisfied? (And can you still refer for 10%?)
Media Temple for me.
Namecheap, $77.40 per year. http://www.namecheap.com/web-hosting/web-hosting.aspx
Mediatemple, 20$ per month http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/gs/features/
I've got an SSD cloud from https://www.ubiquityservers.com. Been using them for 4+ years and actually had joined their team as Director of Marketing. If anyone needs anything just holler ;)
@danielhaim.
Rackspace and Amazon.
I use BlueHost personaly, which isn't brilliant. At work we use UKFast, who are ok, but we've only used their Windows Servers (client request), and 34sp, who host our external staging server, which works fine for what it does.
We've recently had to use Azure on a few sites, and I've been surprised at how good it is. Relatively cheap and as long as you don't all of a sudden max out your CPU or bandwidth (which has happened once), remains relatively cheap.
I use Heroku and Github Pages.
A Small Orange $100/yr
Another vote for github pages. I used to use Mediatemple but have been moving everything to github pages as of late. There is also the added benefit of having everything under source control as well.
Github pages also supports Jekyll which is worth looking into if your building your own site.
I've been using Heroku, but I'm now switching over to Amazon EC2. Both are free in their most basic forms, but require some know-how.
Amazon S3 and Webfaction
I use 14Plex - http://14plex.com/
http://one.com/ 30 euros per year.
We're big fans of Rackspace Cloud.
Also, I wouldn't go with one of the "Unlimited everything" plans, as I've been an active member on a couple of web software communities and these hosts are notoriously untrustworthy and restricting. They put caps in the fine print on things like how much data you can use at one time.
I haven't used them myself, but a trusted friend suggested Digital Ocean to me. https://www.digitalocean.com/ $5 p/m for a good sized VPS is their smallest package, and they have larger ones should you need them.
I have been using digital ocean for the last few months. I cant recommend it enough. If you are hosting a static site, its blazing fast.
Rackspace open cloud: http://www.rackspace.com/open-cloud/
I use BlueHost. I pay $5.95 a month for unlimited everything. I've had no issues with uptime so far, and BlueHost support is great. No complaints at all.
I use BlueHost too... Where abouts are you based? I'm UK based and have had some big problems with uptime (my servers been down for more than 12 hours at least 3 times in the past year) and speed. Looking at switching at some point...
I use Site5 - $12 bucks per month for a multi user account, unlimited domains, space, etc. etc. You have the option to pay annually though.
Great all around and the service is top notch. Any time I had a question whether it was 5pm or AM they helped me out.
We have a few reseller accounts with hostgator that we use to provide hosting for our client sites. Looks like there are a lot of Media Temple users here. Is there any particular reason you all chose them for you hosting?
I use Media Temple.
dreamhost and heroku
Nodejitsu, command line deploys at $3/month or less. DigitalOcean is a solid choice though if you can nail the server setup and deploy process!
Dreamhost, 119$ per year, but i am gonna switch to Media Temple.
I'm using Uberspace http://uberspace.de/ (unfortunately their site is in german only).
The cool thing: they have no fixed pricing, you can pay what you want (as long as it is more than €1/month). Uptime is fine and you get more features than the most hosters offer for expensive $40/m plans. Definitely the best hoster for developers out there - I only wish they would care a little more about international.
I used uberspace for a long time. If you're a developer you'll love it but if you're designer and don't feel comfortable with the terminal, it is likely that you won't be able to get your head around it.
Agree, compared to other hosting companies they are very much focused on web developers. However, their wiki is great and helped me in almost any situation (basically I've no idea about servers and hosting at all).
I use Linode and 6Sync personally, and we use Media Temple at Dribbble. I highly recommend all three!
