Besides email, I've recently tried using Slack to communicate with my client and it seems to be working fine. What are you guys using?
Does it make sense for a freelancer to use services such as basecamp, or is it overkill?

Via Skype (Communication), Invision (Process) and Dropbox (Assets delivery).
I use email and Google Hangout for communication, and Marvel and Google Docs for sharing prototypes and detailed info.
I think it's about time I made the switch to a centralized communication platform, though.
Currently I'm using marvelapp it works pretty well, clients like the fact to be able to click on the assets and "navigated" between the pages of the site/app.
