Hey guys,
I want to set up a blog for myself and have been looking through the options, they all seems overly complicated for something so seemingly simple. Wordpress for example - way too much customisation and set-up for what I intend to do.
Has anyone any recommendations on some quick, light weight ways to set up a blog?

Tumblr. If you can code, Jekyll.

Or you could even just use Tumblr and setup a custom domain and theme, like what we have: http://blog.madsoftgames.com
+1 on Anchor. Simple and nice.

Cheers, I'm gonna check out Anchor and Ghost. They seem straight-forward enough.
Really enjoying Ghost myself. It does require Node.js hosting, but you can set up a $5/mo pre-built image at Digital Ocean, or use Ghost's own hosting.
I've tried Anchor and it's very nice, especially if you want to do different designs per post, but I'm worried it's never going to get to 1.0.

I tried to setup a ghost blog using digital ocean's vps service but could not connect to the server to upload my theme. After 4 hours decided it wasn't simple enough and went back to Wordpress.org.

If you know what to do (code, rsync) You can have a blog in 10 minutes with Digital Ocean (+ yer domain) + Octopress.
Now there are many website builders who, on their own domain names, can allow you to create a free and simple blog site. Well, or buy small designs for $10-40. Also have ai blog writer free which can help you and solve many problems
It's a lite version of ExpressionEngine.
If you're an Evernote user you may want to check out Postach.io. http://postach.io
You just create a notebook in Evernote and link it up to Postach.io and you're done. Any notes tagged with 'published' will appear on your blog.
If you're familiar with Jekyll, I started an open-source theme on Github at this address:

You can fork it, publish to your own gh-page and even do whatever you want with the styles :)

Tumblr is a great place to start, but bear in mind they are against any kind of advertising
Tumblr or Wordpress.com — both offer a simple blog you don't need to customise out-of-the-box. Create an account, choose a title and off you go.
Tumblr Boilerplate is new and looks like it would be easy to setup: http://tumblrboilerplate.com
I'm a bit fan of Tumblr and Blogger.
I also recommend Siteleaf which uses a Jekyll compatible syntax but with a simple and lightweight content management UI.
