At this point, the list of uber-cool Codrops effects that I absolutely must use in my next project would keep me busy for the next 10 years…

    I give up.

Personally, I don't like a single one of these. They hijack the scrolling (even if just for a second), and that frustrates me.

Totally agree, nice eye-candy but bad UX. They totally interrupt scrolling and make the user feel they've lost control of the page.

All that being said, with a little bit of usability refinement, these are some great proofs of concept.

It's pretty, but it hijacks your scroll bar. If you do one click of the mouse wheel down to activate it, you can't do one click up to bring back the menu - you need to scroll further down before you can go back to the top.

Also tried it on mobile, and you can't swipe to scroll out of the intro - you need to hit the arrow which is annoying for web articles.

Unexpected behaviours don't always create frustration. Frustration comes much after the user tries a couple of times.

On the contrary, there's this initial impulse of curiosity, which if handled consciously by the designer, it'll create a pleasant surprise.

      My few $. :)

Wow! Such awesome effects. Codrops seriously does some of the most amazing demos I've ever seen. They are always thinking of creative ideas and small snippets. Well done, guys/gals! :D

These are really well done, but I do feel like some of these transitions are a bit jarring/dramatic. My first thought when I land on an article is to scroll down, so I don't always look at everything before I do. Some of these transitions made the page change quite dramatically, giving me the feeling that I missed something. I had to go back and forth a few times to make sure I didn't.

One of the first Codrops demos in a while to substantially turn me off. Side and Fixed Side were the only ones I liked, and even then it'd be only in a special case. I can see a better execution of Grid working too.

Cool. But scroll-jacking is no bueno.
