Oh God, this is how I got into web design about 5-6 years ago. I built a lot of things for the PlayStation Portable which had a built in standalone Flash Player which you could do cool things with.

The word "app" wasn't widespread back then, but they kind of were. This brings back good memories, happy to share them!

Created an interpreter that supported some very basic Ruby syntax. (Just for the kicks). This is how I got interested in programming and the technology behind it.

LOL. The dock actually worked! It had the fisheye effect that was close to the real deal. :P

This was a Linux interface for the PSP. The cool thing was that it had some sort of true multitasking going on. Running applications could share resources and each application had a dedicated amount of RAM assigned that it could use, since the PSP had a limit 2MB cache.

Flash is far from dead.

It still has a place in all the solutions you should consider before recommending one to a client. Yeah it doesn’t work on mobile devices, but the HTML version of it is HUGE in file size in comparison. So, have it on your option list, it may well deliver a better result for the needs of your project once you have the needs specified.

While Flash is still being used by digital agencies, mainstream adoption - especially for web apps is pretty much dead. Which is a shame. It was an amazing tool. Got done in by Adobe, not baba jobs - contrary to popular opinion :p
