The animations/hijacked scroll speed on this site are so sllllooowww. I feel like I'm scrolling through molasses.
I agree! I felt so slow the whole time
Cool idea, but seems pretty inconvenient to have to convince someone else to download an app and make a card, just so you can send them yours, instead of just, here you go, this is my card.
yea only men have business cards and ladies are only objects of desire
Ugh. This. Stupid video.
Also, stop making paper into a bad guy. Electronics also require natural resources, are generally more toxic, aren't as easy to recycle, and don't compost nearly as fast.
This is the kind of idea that sounds nice conceptually (almost artistically) but when applied in the real world doesn't quite work.
Business cards are the way they are because they are physical. Once contact information becomes digital, there is no need to keep the shape and proportion of the physical object. For instance, a business card has a back and a front side because it's a card. A digital business card doesn't really need a back side.
As Shane mentioned, there's still a barrier between non-users and users of the app. You need to tell a person about the app, what it does and why it's more convenient than the existing solution.
I'm not saying we should keep printing and having business cards, but if we're going to try something new, maybe we should drop the concept of business cards altogether.
(PS: I agree, gorgeous promo video.)
Gorgeous promo video.
I thought it was filmed really well and obviously they spent a lot of effort to make it look awesome, which it does, but after watching it I don't even know what the app does... Am I alone on that?
Nope. I went through the site a few times and still never totally got it (even though I have a sense). I watched the video last, and was hoping for at least a teaser-like series of quick interactions to get the idea across. Nope. Nothing.
Also doesn't help that there are an excess 10 seconds on that last (annoying) guy girl interaction. Took way too long.
Yeah! That was soooo long. I kept thinking, okay, they're going to reveal the grand app....now, wait...now, wait....what?
I can see the through the guy's shirt sleeves on the last slide... according to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy rule #4593 -> this app will fail
:)
Those said, nice work.
This is a beautifully usable website. It's 23:46 where I am and I'm close to bed, but found myself comfortably reading through your copy - which I don't do for many sites.
That said, I think this is a delicate idea to pull off. The issue with business is that old people are often the most important people, and old people don't give a shit about an app for business cards, they care about business. And if I don't think the old people I come across are going to have your app, I'm not going to have it either.
So you have got to get the big people to have your app, and to do that you have to provide them with real value vs a physical business card, then find them and get them to use it.
Gah, I thought we gave up hijacking-scrolling this year. You all promised to stop doing this. Why did you do this, stacks?
I've been meaning to write something about the big-page design--it seems that more often than not there's a lack of focus/direction. With big, page-spanning designs, you have to make your message terse and clear.
"Pixel-Perfect Networking" makes no sense. Not even an air of mystery. It just doesn't indicate that there's anything going on here.
Uhhh, I just wanna know what that song was in the video?! FANTASTIC.
sj;dr
First impressions of this were (a) this is beautifully designed and (b) what even is this? is this meant to be serious?
Seems like an April Fool's joke.
