I really, really hate articles on news sites where they make a list about some contrived subject and Vox has two on the front page already!

"11 book series to satisfy your Game of Thrones cravings" "11 board games you should be playing as an adult"

Does anyone else really hate this type of article?

It makes the publication seem cheap and lazy and compares them in my mind with Upworthy or other sites which live or die by headlines alone.

I hate those as well. They're just as bad as those dime-a-dozen "23 Trendy Designs for Your Delight" articles on the spam blogs.

What I find interesting is the commitment to these posts, even when it's not a click through slideshow that generates more views (like Complex Magazine).

Clearly, these stories perform very well. I hope Vox is just using them as tests for their 'cards' feature

And yet, The Verge is still not responsive. It's seriously becoming annoying at this point with them releasing awesome sites and beautiful projects, all responsive, but their flagship site hasn't been updated to a responsive design.

They do have a mobile app though.

They have a mobile site, which is far better experience than having a responsive site.

They don't have THAT many engineers.

They have some responsive features, but they built out a really, really big infrastructure this way, while Polygon and Vox came after (and were built from scratch, learning from their mistakes). It'll come, but it's not easy to transfer a non-responsive paradigm to a responsive one.

And also, RWD does't solve every problem. In many cases, the cost of serving a separate site that pulls from the same APIs is more efficient than having one codebase with a denser stylesheet.

I love that it’s full of Okay Type!

The large header image is great, but they should really make use of vertical media queries to be truly responsive. On some viewports, it looks a little awkward.

Beautiful visual design though! Kind of like an edgier Vanity Fair.

    Really slick.

I like that there are (at least) three different "story types". They've got plain ol' blog posts and lists, they've got large-headered Medium-style long format stuff, and they've got a weirdo card format (my favorite) for explaining long, complex storylines.

Excited to watch how they use these "story types" to their advantage (and discovering more!).

Why doesn't 'Edit Account & Settings' match the rest of the site?

It looks completely out of place.

    Really like it.

But the proportions feel off to me at inbetween screen sizes. I first opened up the site in a resized window and the full-bleed photo and proportion of the type felt really off to me. I opened this up on a larger monitor in full screen and everything looked really great.

I've noticed this on some other responsive sites (really, notably with full-bleed photography). Anyone else?

Awesome! Really excited to read this and poke around the code, too. :)
