Thanks for adding this, Elliot!
If anyone has any questions or critiques, I'm the dude who made this - happy to field 'em all here in the comments!
Good teardown as always. I disagree with you a little about the How You'll Appear page (slide 20). Since that's just about G+, wouldn't it derail things to push the user into adding a profile photo rather than getting right into the actual gmail content? Skipping that step feels like the right CTA to me.
I think skipping it is the right move, too, which is why I question why the screen exists in the first place. If the default is to not do something, why interrupt the flow with it to begin with?
Yeah, true. It feels a little shoehorned in.
I share your sentiment regarding the colored-pencil graphics. It would serve them well to explore something more like the grayscale placeholder for your chat buddies on the left. That has a "hand illustrated" but not "colored-pencil sketch" style to it that I think I'd enjoy in technicolor.
Totally agreed! It's also odd that it shifts from colored pencil to more of a clipart feel and then back to colored pencil.
I have a pet theory that the colored pencil ones are super old and they needed new ones and the next person didn't follow the same aesthetic game plan. (the two clipart ones are for To-Dos and Video Chats, which I believe both came much later)
Either way, I 100% concur re: the greyscale chat bubble illustrations!
