    Incredible price. But I think I have enough Google in my life and I'd rather put my money on medium size / small companies. Let's see what dropbox has to say.

      dropbox isn't medium/small anymore though. they're enormous. they've been acquiring medium/small companies for a while now. mailbox, snapjoy, and endorse, to name a few. they're valued at ~$10b.

        Yeah, totally agree. Dropbox isn't the best example of small / medium company, but Google is Huge compared, and they're getting inside every online business available. More than supporting dropbox, I am against putting my entire life in Google's hands.

        Agreed, I guess that's the last thing keeping me from switching. Damn, that's a very low price... I'm currently on the 100Gb at $99/year...

        How are their experiences different? Both can have dedicated sync folders, awesome mobile apps, and good web web interfaces. I even prefer Drive since people can share folders with me without me having to pony up cash and having to use my storage against their size.

        Google is much more experienced in handling large amounts of data than Dropbox will ever be.

      I don't know if its reliable, but I can't switch until all the apps that have Dropbox support built in add Drive as an option. But when they do, it'll be a serious contender.

    This is a great deal, but is using Google Drive nearly as great? I love taking screenshots with Dropbox and sharing links, being able to grab a link from on my computer to share the location of a file with someone. Dropbox just seems better still...

    Used both. I still prefer Dropbox for it's user experience and “share link” function directly on the finder.

    But damn, that's a really low price.

    I think cloud storage will eventually be free, as soon as business models adapt to deliver it. In China, you can get 36TB free on 360 YunPan.

    Whoever manages to offer TBs of reliable cloud storage for free + Dropbox-like UX and integration will eventually win. So it may not be Google, or Dropbox, or Copy ..

    We have tried to use Drive but it proved to be unreliable, constantly failing to upload files, sometimes reverting to old versions and whatnot. If it's still that way I wouldn't consider using it to store important files even for free.

      Agree, and that's something worth to mention. I tried Google Drive a year ago or so and didn't work as expected, we had a lot of syncing issues and I'm not sure if they fixed them or not.

        About a year ago I switched from Dropbox to Google Drive. After weeks of uploading my measly ~500GB (which Dropbox did in hours), Google Drive suddenly said:

        oops, sorry, some bizarre sync error happened. now you have to reupload all of your stuff. my bad.

        Needless to say, within the week I had switched back to Dropbox.

      Drive has been pretty perfect for my friend and I as we share ~100 GB each of music with each other. Never a hiccup, never lost data. It's even hard for me to believe that you lost data with them at all.

    As much as I love Dropbox and don't mind paying, this is way too good of a deal to pass. I'm probably gonna use Google Drive to backup my photos and projects, while still using the free tier of Dropbox for anything that I'm using currently and needs to be reliable.

    I tried to switch to G Drive last year, from Dropbox for personal use but it was just too unreliable. I can't remember the exact issue I was having, but google drive support ended up telling me i needed to go into terminal and do this and that. Seemed crazy given how good Dropbox is. So I ended up staying with Dropbox. That said, a year later, I'll try again, just to see.

    But... with Dropbox buying up all the UI designers in town (SF), you have to wonder what they're building and if whatever it is will be a shot across Google's bow.

    Maybe we are starting to see the stratification of cloud storage services. There is room in any industry for higher price options and economy choices. Dropbox just has to prove that they have a superior product which maybe they already have (based on comments in this thread).

    I'm a massive fan of Dropbox, but this price is simply too hard to ignore. I'd like them to simply double the space or something... and play up their strengths.

    I pay the equivalent of $16.60/month for 200GB... so to get a TB for only $9.99/month at Google... at least something should give. I believe Dropbox has a better product... and I'd happily stay if they simply upped me to 400GB at the same $16.60 knowing how much better their product is at some things.

    I think the biggest effect this has is on the Dropbox users at 500GB or higher. The jump from 200GB gets pricey because they aren't discounting the storage volume itself. No matter the tier, it's like a fixed ~$8.25/100 GB.
