moral of the story is that if you don't want people taking your name, don't name stuff after un-trademarkable things.
This one's interesting though. "53" is an oddly specific number.
Considering how much easier it's becoming to create things, are we going to start running into conflicts like these more often? How unique can a name possibly be?

Not to take sides, but the release date is different than the date of name registration. Seems like that's where MiSoft's issue is.
When 53 tried to register the app with iTunes, it would have let them know they can't use "Paper" as a name because it's already been reserved. At which point the "by FiftyThree" became a necessity.
I felt it was appropriate to drop in for more context following the article. That's all :)
