Boarding Pass/Fail also contains various boarding pass re-design attempts for the past couple years. One issue they brought up is that boarding passes are often printed on thermal printers which have some limitations.
What’s interesting to me is that boarding passes have dramatically changed in the past couple years. Having flown recently, I was surprised by the number of people (including myself) who now use their phone and electronic boarding passes. These are better designed than paper ones and can have up-to-date information (gate, departure time, delays, etc).
Flown a lot recently too, and having a boarding pass on my phone is indispensable.
Passes may have changed, however the whole industry is crying for a major disruption.
Things are pretty much the same for decades.
With that said, the opportunities to innovate by re-designing every aspect of the industry are more than a lot.
Disrupting the airline industry is incredibly hard — not only most of the market is in the hands of handful of huge corporations creating extremely locked in systems and platforms (vide: Sabre Airline Solutions). Not to mention everything is also extremely regulated for obvious reasons.
True, however progress will come eventually.
Do you imagine humanity using planes and 'paper' (passes) for traveling in 20 years from now?
All it takes is a brave "Jobs" or "Musk" to trigger the first wave of change.
This guy's about 3 years too late.
Well done. Although I feel like I've seen 100 boarding pass redesign projects in recent years.
Agreed. E'erybody seems to be redesigning Apple and boarding passes.
Really well thought out. One thing I'm personally always paranoid about when I put boarding pass or other papers inside my passport, is if they accidentally slip and fall out. So, taking a leaf from this design, perhaps if the folded part of the boarding pass could come over and on top of the passport, acting as a hook and preventing the boarding pass to fall out.
Nicely put together
I like it and the way you presented it is brilliant!
I dig it, and even though it's been done (to death?) recently, I just got back from vacation, it involved several flights and layovers, and I didn't travel with a mobile device, and the confusion the physical boarding pass caused was enough for me to champion any of these redesigns that make it much easier - I especially like the way it fits in a passport. Mine was all crumpled up from sticking out of both ends of mine.
Really well done...
