I'm going to start screen-casting projects I work on so I have the option of publishing them as a tutorial. I love tutorials, so the more the better.
Screen capture software is interesting. In my experience, no two people recommend the same screen capture software. I haven't found a go-to screen capturer. I want to see if we can meet a general consensus.
I use Quicktime Player to screen record. Admittedly, I use screen recordings for quick demos to colleagues, not for screen-casting projects on a professional level.
I use ScreenFlow for everything. It's pretty great. http://www.telestream.net/screenflow/
If it's for short clips, I'd recommend Licecap. I use it a lot for demoing/documenting UI work. http://www.cockos.com/licecap/
It may not look like much, but it's a great app that let's you record animated GIFs.
I've found this is the best for making screen captured GIFs, too.
I downloaded the mac version but I keep getting a "Cant be opened because its form an unidentified developer"
Any ideas?
Yeah, you have to change the OSX setting in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General under "Allow Applications downloaded from:"
Ah thanks! Wow this is exactly what I was looking for!
OR you can just right-click and open, it bypasses the security feature and let's you open it.
I would actually add my opinion of Screenflow. It's a solid app with great editing tools also and works brilliantly with OSX.
Screenflow is good, especially from the editing point of view. For simplicity, Quicktime.
ScreenFlow is the man! Can't imagine using anything else, it's just so simple, yet so powerful!
Quicktime! Simple, and you don't need to install anything.
QuckCast (http://quickcast.io/) is great for really simple 3 minute screencasts.
I use Snapz, and recently picked up Camtasia as well (was on sale)
