Does anyone here design with an Apple Magic Mouse 2?

over 2 years ago from , Product Designer

Does your screen also shake like a polaroid picture?

It's especially frustrating in Sketch/Figma. The mouse is very sensitive to any small movement of my index finger. I tried everything, mouse settings, Accessibility settings, ... the only way I can avoid it is deactivating scrolling but I haven't paid €85 to have a mouse that doesn't scroll.

Does anyone else have the same problem?

Yeah it's completely unusable in After Effects and if you look on their forum about disabling scroll wheel zoom in the viewport all you get told is "Buy another mouse, $10 mice work fine" from an "Adobe MVP".

It's not really useable for precision work because very little software is built with it in mind.

I use a logitech 2-button mouse w scroll wheel like I'm still in the god damned 90s. And loving it.

I have the same issue with the 1st-gen Magic Mouse. It gets pretty jiggy when trying to position items when I'm trying to be slow and precise.

    This won't help you, but…

I bought a Logitech MX Master 3 and it fixes that accuracy issue, but I really missed the omni-directional scrolling. It has a thumb reachable nub for horizontal scrolling, but it was a bit inconsistent.

I returned that and got Apple's Magic Trackpad, thinking this will give accuracy, movement and gestures, but the hand resting position just didn't work for me. I returned it.

Back on the Magic Mouse and accepting the jigging, which sucks, but don't see any alternative. Planning to upgrade to the 2nd-gen so I stop burning through batteries.

I used to before we started working from home. I definitely did used to experience that sometimes. It didn't happen too often but when it did it was really frustrating. Plus the stupid charger on the bottom. I've been using a logitech mouse since working from home though. No issues. Just the scrolling isn't as smooth as the magic mouse - the only thing I miss about it.

I use the Apple Magic Mouse 2. But don't have the issue you describe. Maybe you keep your index finger too close to the center
