Console and PC players have a good laugh.
I am actually quite happy with that news because I really prefer paid games over freemium games on mobile. Even if I don't own them digitally I'm fine because all I want is the experience.
For people who are worried about Triple AAA games, there are other ways to play them; Apple probably knows that it is too hard of a battle for the gain at the end and they will do like Nintendo and focus on small indie games scene. And according to the success of the Switch, people love those small indie games
I think you're on the right wavelength here. I am guessing Apple are in no way going for any of the hardcore gaming market share here.. I see this as a way Apple can ensure parents are not simply buying their kids 1 off apps, but instead paying a subscription to a gaming service... So Apple can now be provided with yet another constant revenue stream.
Sure - there will be others who buy into this, but I see kids with parents ipads as being a majority of the customer base.
OR I've misunderstood all of this and they are making some seriously odd choices.
I really wish Apple would release an XBOX style controller. There really aren't any good ones out there and games like Oceanhorn 2 will need a good controller to make it fun to play.
so 100+ games were made and shelved until this service is ready to release? I have a hard time believing they are any good... much less "groundbreaking"
A few of those look like games that were already in development and Apple probably purchased the rights to be exclusive to Apple Arcade. Annapurna Interactive is also not a stranger to iOS games. They make some of the more interesting games on the platform, IMHO. Gorogoa is as beautiful as it is difficult.
I'm intrigued to see how these originals are different to what is already out there. The only thing I can see happening is the gaming experience being limited for a what a hardcore gamer might be use to. Just based on the fact the games will have to be touch and mobile based.
Think of this more like the Switch than PC or console games and it makes a lot of sense. I just wish Apple would consider making a controller for the Apple TV and their desktops if this is the route they want to go. The Apple TV remote is NOT a good controller, period.
The controller will surely come next... They may not be going after hardcore gamers but they're certainly serious about gaming and touch screen controls suck. They can stick their W1 chip in it as a unique selling point.
That "Notify Me" button. Bleh.
Congratulation Jordan, you've just been nominated for the most useful comment of the year.
You could've said something about the announcement, how it feels the more cohesive compared to the others. Easier to understand what it is, it's value proposition and why you would want it. It looks like Apple is spending a fortune funding exclusive games. It makes the Google’s Stadia thing from last week look much smaller. Interesting is how much Apple emphasize the Mac and Apple TV.
But yeah, that Notify Me button..
While I agree with you that his comment is short on explaining the why behind "Bleh." I must point that the post was filed under "Site Design" category, usually used to gain critique of the website more than elaborate on business value and proposition.
From the page design perspective, I think it looks great, but the performance is terrible. Multiple video backgrounds are taking so much processing power that unless you scroll really slow, the page is constantly glitching. If I try scrolling up and down the page, it becomes a mess. That's for me at least, maybe on Tim's iMac Pro it goes smooth as butter. And I also dislike the red color choice for "Notify me" button, I think the white color button, as on Apple TV+ page, would be more settle choice.
I love the Apple Card page design though, I think it's a really well balance of interactive elements, text, and images.
But design ties very much with value proposition, business strategy and how customers perceive the brand. It’s the result of all those complex things, especially for big brands. Focusing on just the execution is short sighted and honestly not very valuable.
My point is the conversation cannot be just on deliverables. Btw in my opinion that Notify Me button in an accent colour is not really out of context considering the target audience, gamers.
Ooooh, Stefano, you were this close to not being a condescending asshat. Bummer.
Looks to be around zero AAA titles in their list though, casual gamers look to be their only demographic. Sounds boring.
How are any of those observations more valid than the original?
