Very cool idea but honestly if I get to this site wanting to see her work, I was immediately turned off by the chunk of words, the cognitive overhead of figuring out what it all meant, and the realization of the relative amount of extra work it was going to be to see all her relevant work as opposed to just showing it here more conventionally.

Amazing portfolio of work, but wow that blob of words on the home page is extremely annoying and tough to read.

Aw man! I loved Bethany's old site. Such a fantastic use of texture, typography, and color. This new one, while nice looking, adds a layer of friction when you just want to look at some of her work. Half the time when you click a link hoping to find a cool project, you're just linked to a Medium article. Kind of a turn off, personally :/

UPDATE: Just went back and looked. Apparently there's a little arrow next to the category when it's going to send you someplace else like Medium. Didn't even see it at first. Also doesn't help that a lot of links line break and the category (with that arrow) is on the line below.

I absolutely love her work. She's able to layer complex ideas across lots of different looks in a way that works cohesively.

It's perfect. It's the right fit for the experience, even in terms of visual presentation. Yeah, you need to read it and appreciate the fonts. What happened to reading text? Are we only limited to appreciate pictures? If it is difficult to read, then it's not the right reader for the website. Insert deal with it glasses

I personally love it. Something new and creative. Yes she could have created a 4x4 grid of projects with images but this is something different.

I love her format - and her work is stellar. Admittedly, a sucker for anything Lou Dorfsman.

Love the design of those work pages. The layout, typography, and colors are quite nice.

Great and beautifully designed web site, but ... that custom font treatment for some of the titles (SeviloNova)?  I wouldn't wish that font on my worst enemy.

That said, Bethany made that font work in the overall design, so kudos to her for being original and trying something unique.

Yeah but the other title typeface she uses, Zerfallen, that Klim custom made for Medium, is so fantastic. Hopefully it becomes available for public licensing eventually. (All 3 typefaces on the site Zerfallen, Söhne and Sevilo Nova Full Bung are all as-yet-released Klim typefaces.)

I just can't get behind the current trend of combining serif and sans serif fonts in the same sentence. I also didn't realize her site contained work samples.

This looks like one of those sites you make and show only to other designers you think will "get it".

I would never for a second have thought that the garish font, jammed-together content, gigantic type size and awful paragraph spacing would be describing the work of a typography specialist.
