Cool, but I gotta say that this reminds me of a forum I built when I was 15. Remember when we had the capacity to deal with forums? I wanted to create a community for graphic designers, and, like HN, DN, this, and countless others, wanted to associate it with my personal brand.
I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of HN's "news.____" template that DN adopted. I agree that LayerVault definitely deserves some extra traffic and brand recognition for putting so much effort into this and creating real value for everyone involved. But at the same time, a for-profit organization essentially taking ownership over an entire field rubs me the wrong way (yes, YC too).
I think if you want to create something like this for your community, then by all means you should do it, but with your product's lowest tier of $999, this comes across as pretty cynical.
