I think you're on the right wavelength here. I am guessing Apple are in no way going for any of the hardcore gaming market share here.. I see this as a way Apple can ensure parents are not simply buying their kids 1 off apps, but instead paying a subscription to a gaming service... So Apple can now be provided with yet another constant revenue stream.
Sure - there will be others who buy into this, but I see kids with parents ipads as being a majority of the customer base.
OR I've misunderstood all of this and they are making some seriously odd choices.
