To be fair, they don't exactly spell out in clear terms what they intend to do with that data. If they did that, no one would have signed up. Some of the data collection seems to make a certain amount of sense given the social aspect of the service but they truth of what they collected and what they did with it is, while not completely surprising to me, staggering in its scope all the same.
They certainly would have signed up, and still acted surprised when their precious data was sold.

When you install Facebook app (e.g. on android), you clearly see, that you are giving it access to most of your phone data (call history, SMS history, photos, videos), GPS location, it can take records with Camera or Microphone at any time.
75 millions of people have been doing it for years and now, everybody is acting like nobody noticed it.
