In the US people generally put their eggs in the fridge. There are some health-related reasons - because of the way US eggs have to be washed the outer layer of the shell get weakened and there is increased risk of contamination. Putting them in the fridge reduces the risk.
The rest of the world has more sane laws around washing eggs. :)
