No, it's not. But it can easily be fixed with software. Top/bottom black bars with same height will do it.
Then what's the point of the edge to edge bezel? If you want black bars at the top and bottom buy a Samsung S8. Personally I have no problem with the notch and don't see the utter disdain it's received. Apple's design/development solution of safe areas solved the issue quite nicely.
Top/bottom black bars on iPhone X won't be simple bezels. They will display information at the top and help you perform gestures easily at the bottom. Design is obvious in this case.
Also, it will ease app development. No need to support the notch and the home indicator.
It's almost as if designer don't like doing their job. Finding interesting and novel ways to incorporate device limitations and maintain effective communication is what should excite us as designers, should it?
You know when you are hired to continue the work of a terrible designer? That's how I feel when I have to deal with the hardware intrusion on this screen. It's not that I don't like doing my job, it's that I prefer to work with people that share my design priorities.
