So what does this iPhone do again that the 6S can't? Wireless charging and true tone? That's what 2 years of innovation have brought? And we had to give up the headphone jack, a real home button and an extra £150 (the 6S used to be £550, while the 8 is £700).

There's no such a thing as Wireless charging. It is induction charging. The only thing it "improves" is that you don't need to plug a cable to start charging. As you, since the 6 I still don't see anything new or fresh on hardware besides a lot of speed and some camera improvements.

True that about speed, and seeing how the days when new apps and games would need the considerable leaps in performance occurring every year are long gone, I see no reason to buy the new ones. This is an observed trend, and I'm disappointed to see the strategy companies are responding with is to increase prices as a way to compensate for us buying phones less frequently.

      Uurm..

3D spacial mapping is a pretty big one, much better cpu/gpu, than the a10... To be fair it's got a lot happening under the skin.

I'm by no means an apple fan, though I am kicking myself having upgraded to a S8+ and now seeing this.

3D spacial mapping like the type facebook messenger and instagram could do for a year on any regular old phone?

And yeah, better specs are nice, but we reached a point where they don't mean much anymore. In the early days of smartphones, after 2 years, the 250MB of RAM your 2010 phone had was no match for the apps and games of 2012. But today that is not the case anymore, there are simply no apps on a phone that could use more than the 2GB Apple is offering or the 4/6GB on Android phones.

I think this phone is unimpressive but the 6s came out before brexit, which drove the prices up.

Unrelated, but wireless charging is the answer to a question nobody was asking.
