I decided to redo my portfolio because I'm in transition of jobs now, but my last position really improved my client communication. My main focus for the redesign is to highlight problems I solved working with clients, as opposed to just showing standalone hi-res visuals (which is what my previous site looked like).
You can find inspiration for aesthetic anywhere, so I'd suggest you first find a good balance that shows how you identify problems, steps you take to address them, and your finished work.
