Are you saying that apps that are focused are better than apps that do more?
If the shovel easily converted to a hammer and back to a shovel as needed would it not make it a better or as good as just a hammer?
This is a really interesting question in general — and I'm inclined to think that a product with a focus is better than a product that does multiple things at an "ok" level.

Except for a penknife, a penknife rocks (but mostly because of convenience & portability, I doubt anyone would choose to eat their dinner with penknife if a regular knife & fork were available).

Absolutely. How many times have you personally used a shovel to hammer in a nail?
