Ya, entirely anecdotal, which isn't a great basis to make sweeping generalizations. I'd love to see some data as well showing what the disparity is if one exists.

Keep in mind that those are % of people working in all areas of the companies listed, not just tech. If you take Facebook for example - there's a much larger gender disparity between people working in tech than in other areas: http://newsroom.fb.com/news/2015/06/driving-diversity-at-facebook/
I believe the industry is DESIGN, not TECH.
We need to encourage proportionate representation of gender in all areas then, I would say. Tech happens to be mostly male, while teaching and nursing happens to be mostly female. Perhaps we could implement hiring requirements for gender based on the demographics in each state?
