I do the same and love it. I used to use CloudApp, but I like dropbox method better and keeps all my files on that platform.
I like to use the shortcut Cmd + shift + 4, which gives you the crosshairs to crop just a section of the screen. Like this:

My other fave is cmd + shift + 4
then clicking on an application window to capture just the application :)

Pro tip: Dropbox can automatically save Mac screenshots taken with
cmd + shift + 3
