I don't think it's always a clear cut equation like that.

Well, sometimes it is, and this is one of those times. They had to drop Ember for iOS because they couldn't solve a bug with iCloud.

I paid $55 for Ember because I wanted a library that would sync to my iPad. What I got was months of bugs that caused me to lose my data several times, and finally their solution was to stop development on it within a year of me buying it.

Now they are building a new application based off of open-source work by Google, and they are charging $15 for it. I really want to like Realmac, but this is just too sleezy for me...

FYI If you're looking for an Ember replacement, Pixa is great (no iPad app, though), Pixave is very similar ($10 I think, no companion app either), or Dropmark, which is like $45 and has a similar sets/tagging setup (they say they have an iOS app coming soon).

The creators of Pixave or working on a companion app, they're really fast at implementing new features. I hope they keep it up.

It often is. Realmac sold off or discontinued several older products because they were promising to focus on their core efforts.

Several abandoned attempts at using Ember later, many of us are still waiting for that focus to show itself.

The rest of us aren’t waiting anymore because we’ve moved on from Realmac. Source: the comments in this thread.
