I actually went to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo! I just graduated in June.
Almost everything is a distraction
plus 1 for this. To me, this is a pitfall for Macs. Some apps really don't need the accompanying menu bar icon to begin with.
Did you see that El Capitan is going to break this. System Integrity Protection is going to prevent system things like battery, notification center, etc. from being hidden.
Hopefully, they figure out a fix before it launches in the fall.
