Sign up is currently open. Rather than locking down sign ups, we're leaning more toward authenticating accounts for a few reasons. Namely, it sucks to have someone post something you did as a "Show DN" or general discussion, and be unable to comment on it because you don't have an account.
I think authenticating with Twitter, or maybe even Dribbble, would be a good way.
Also, not against open signups, but the level of noise has multiplied over the past months. Tying authentication into either Twitter or Dribbble would require that DNers be (somewhat) active in the larger community, as the majority or designers and developers are active on either Twitter or Dribbble.
I’m down with Dribbble or Twitter auth.
Twitter or Dribble would be good!
Dribbble auth would be terrible because not everyone wants a Dribbble account or goes looking for an invite.
And how about some users being locked? I've sent you guys an email. My posts or comments aren't being made visible.
Quality and ability to find content is my biggest issue with the mass signups. Would love to be able to filter down types of content Show DN/Ask/ETC via the sidebar. Also, downvotes seem necessary at this points.
I second this. The sidebar filter would help me narrow down on search results.
