When did the drawer pattern finally get removed from Apple's own apps on OS X? I seem to remember several apps having drawers for the first few iterations of OS X.
Perhaps Apple has some experience with drawers in apps and removed them on the desktop based on research? If it doesn't work on the desktop with all the 'extra' space, perhaps some of the same reasoning was applied for iOS.
